Why was Saul rejected as king?
1 Samuel 13:9-14 has Samuel telling Saul his dynasty is ended because Saul offered the burnt offering himself instead of waiting. 1 Samuel 15:11, 23 has Yahweh declaring he regrets making Saul king because Saul spared Agag and the best Amalekite livestock instead of completing the genocide.
Critical scholarship: Widely regarded as a genuine contradiction.
