Genesis 15:16 promises Abraham's descendants will return to Canaan "in the fourth generation." But when you actually trace the genealogy Genesis and Exodus give — Abraham → Isaac → Jacob → Levi → Kohath → Amram → Moses — you get six or seven generations depending on how you count, not four.

Exodus 6:16-20 and 1 Chronicles 6:1-3 and 1 Chronicles 23:6-12 all give the same three-generation chain from Levi to Moses: Levi -> Kohath -> Amram -> Moses. Meanwhile 1 Chronicles 7:22-27 gives a parallel chain through Ephraim — son of Joseph, who was Levi's brother, both sons of Jacob — that includes ten generations down to Joshua.
