When did Jacob rename Luz to Bethel?
Genesis 28 has Jacob naming Luz "Bethel" on his way out of Canaan, before he ever meets Rachel. Genesis 35 has God telling him to rename the same place Bethel after he's come back from Paddan-Aram with a full household — "And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel."
