Was Mahli the son of Levi?
Ezra 8:18 calls Mahli "the son of Levi, the son of Israel" — a direct father-son claim. But every Torah and Chronicles list of Levi's sons (Gen 46:11; Exod 6:16; 1 Chr 6:1, 16; 23:6) names only Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Critical scholarship: Leans toward reconciliation.

How many descendants of Jacob and Leah went to Egypt with Jacob?
Genesis 46:9-15a enumerates 32 Leah-descendants by name — Reuben and his four sons, Simeon and his six sons, Levi and his three sons, Judah plus his sons and two grandsons, Issachar and his four sons, Zebulun and his three sons, plus Dinah. That's 32.
Critical scholarship: Leans toward a genuine contradiction.
