How many generations must a bastard wait until his offspring can enter the congregation of the Lord?
Deuteronomy 23:2 bars the offspring of an illegitimate union from the assembly of YHWH for ten generations, but the genealogies of David in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 trace him back through Pharez (the son of Judah and Tamar's incestuous union) in only nine generations. The legal rule and the messianic genealogy don't line up.
