(27) And Jehoiada . . .—Literally, And Jehoiada the prince (hannagîd, 1Ch_9:11; 1Ch_9:20) belonging to Aaron. Aaronis used as the name of the leading clan of Levi. Jehoiada is perhaps father of the Benaiah of 1Ch_11:22. He was not high priest (Abiathar, 1Sa_23:9), but head of the warriors of his clan. It is not clear whether the 3,700 are included in the 4,600 of 1Ch_12:26 or not. Probably not.

Jahoiada. He was probably the father of Benaiah (see 1Ch_11:22 1Ch_18:17 1Ch_27:5; 2Sa_8:18) The Aaronites. This is, of course, equivalent to saying "the priests," i.e. the priestly troops, of whom Jehoiada was leader.
