Him that dieth of Heb. to; see note on 1Ki_14:11 Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat. It may be these words, like those of the next two verses, were almost a formula, but if so, it is noticeable that precisely the same formula was used of Jeroboam a few years before, and Baasha knew well how it had been accomplished. "All the prophets in succession have the same message from God for the same sins" (Wordsworth).
