Psalms 20:5-7

We will triumph in your salvation. In the name of our God, we will set up our banners. May Yahweh grant all your requests.

Now I know that Yahweh saves his anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven, with the saving strength of his right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of Yahweh our God.

5. That we may rejoice in thy salvation. This verse may be explained in two other ways, besides the sense it bears according to the translation which I have given. Some consider it to be a prayer, as if it had been said, Lord, make us to rejoice. Others think that the faithful, after having finished their prayer, encourage themselves to entertain good hope; Meaning, “We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God will we set up our banners.”

John Calvin's Commentaries (1540-1563) — public domain. Text from the Calvin Translation Society English edition (1840s-50s) via the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (ccel.org). Calvin's coverage is partial (roughly two-thirds of the Bible); uncommented books and verses are honest gaps, never fabricated. The 19th-century editor's footnotes and remarks are omitted so the notes are faithfully Calvin's own voice.
