How long was the ark of the covenant at Abinadab's house?
1 Samuel 7:1-2 says the ark stayed at Abinadab's house in Kiriath-jearim for twenty years. The internal chronology of 1-2 Samuel — Samuel's judgeship, Saul's reign, and the early years of David's reign before he brought up the ark in 2 Samuel 6 — adds up to substantially more than twenty years, probably more than forty.
Critical scholarship: Leans toward a genuine contradiction.
