Does God help in times of need?
Multiple psalms and prophetic texts have Yahweh actively hiding his face, refusing to hear prayers, and abandoning those who cry out (Ps 10:1; 22:1; 88:14; Isa 1:15; 45:15; Hab 1:2; Mic 3:4). Other texts insist that Yahweh is a 'very present help in trouble' and 'near to all who call upon him' (Ps 22:24; 46:1; 145:18).
Critical scholarship: Widely regarded as a genuine contradiction.
