Was it lawful for the Jews to kill Jesus?
John 19:7 has the Jewish authorities declaring that under their own law, Jesus deserves death — "by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God." John 18:31 has the same authorities saying to Pilate, "It is not lawful for us to put any man to death."
