Matt 17:1 — “After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John” / Luke 9:28 — “About eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter, John, and James”
When did the transfiguration occur?Matthew 17:1 and Mark 9:2 both state that the transfiguration occurred "after six days" following Jesus' prediction about some standing there not tasting death before seeing the kingdom. Luke 9:28 instead reports it occurred "about an eight days after these sayings."
Critical scholarship: Leans toward reconciliation.

- Read as a real contradiction: No major public-domain critic presses this as a contradiction. The leading nineteenth-century skeptic D. F. Strauss calls the agreement of the six and eight days “certainly striking,” taking Luke’s “eight days” to mean, “according to the usual reckoning, the same as the six days … of the other Evangelists.” D.
