  • Is it OK to add to the law of Moses?

    Deuteronomy 4:2 forbids adding to the commandments: *lōʾ tōsipû ʿal-haddābār ʾăšer ʾānōkî mĕṣawweh ʾetkem* — 'you shall not add to the word which I command you.' Matthew 5:21-22 has Jesus extend the Decalogue's prohibition of murder to cover anger and insult — explicitly adding new content to Mosaic law with the formula *ēkousate hoti errethē ... egō de legō hymin* — 'you have heard that it was said ... but I say to you.'
