Should you punish people with an eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth?
Leviticus 24:19-20 codifies the lex talionis: eye for eye, tooth for tooth, breach for breach. Matthew 5:38-39 has Jesus directly quote that statute and overturn it: "But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil."

Did Jesus teach physical resistance?
Matthew 5:39 has Jesus teaching non-resistance: do not resist evil, turn the other cheek. Matthew 26:52 has him telling Peter to put away his sword because those who take the sword perish by it.
