Is it OK to take a census?
Exodus 30 and Numbers 1, 3, and 26 have YHWH explicitly commanding Moses to take multiple censuses of Israel — the Sinai census, the Levite census, the firstborn census, the Moab census. 2 Samuel 24 and 1 Chronicles 21 have David taking a census and YHWH killing 70,000 people in response.
Critical scholarship: Widely regarded as a genuine contradiction.
