The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

Musaeus calleth him υδρογενης, Water sprung, because "drawn," as David was afterwards, "out of many waters." {Psa 18:16} Clement of Alexandra saith, that at his circumcision, Moses was called Melchi; others say Joachim: but that is as uncertain as that he was the same with Mercurins Trismegistus.
