    All four gospels agree Peter denied Jesus three times, but they disagree on the cast list. Matthew has a servant girl, then another girl, then a crowd.

  • Did the cock crow before or after Peter's denial?

    Matthew 26:74, Luke 22:60, and John 18:27 all have the cock crow after Peter's third denial. Mark 14:67-72 has the cock crow after the first denial and then a second time after the third — and Jesus' prediction in Mark 14:30 specifies 'before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.'

    Critical scholarship: Leans toward a genuine contradiction.
