What current science says

Fevers are triggered by molecules called pyrogens — some released by invading bacteria and viruses, others produced by your own immune cells. These molecules signal your hypothalamus (the brain's thermostat) to raise your body temperature. This whole process is biochemical: molecules binding to receptors, triggering signaling cascades, adjusting your metabolic rate. Sound waves from a human voice don't interact with pyrogens, don't reach the hypothalamus in any meaningful way, and definitely don't kill bacteria. Your fever doesn't speak English.

What the text says

This comes from Luke 4:38-39. The text says a fever was 'rebuked' — literally scolded like a misbehaving child — and it immediately left the patient, who then got up to serve dinner.
