What current science says

Scientific studies consistently show prayer doesn't affect medical outcomes. Diseases are cured by medicine, surgery, or the body's immune system. The largest study on intercessory prayer (the 2006 STEP trial with over 1,800 heart surgery patients) found no healing benefit from prayer. Modern medicine has doubled human life expectancy — prayer hasn't.

What the text says

James 5:14-15 instructs the sick to call for church elders to pray over them and anoint them with oil, promising that 'the prayer of faith shall save the sick.'
